deborahN is a singer songwriter whose music weaves stories from life and from the imagination. As a singer-songwriter, deborahN’s music and sounds envelop the audience in smooth tones that embrace an indie rock, soul, gospel and Indigenous RnB style. Her original songs express a journey of life experience, while her covers retell the storyings from the past and from the place she stands now.
There is a depth to Deb's dulcet tones that rarely fail to take the listener on a journey.
There are many layers to this artist. deborahN has performed in the theatre production “Coconut Woman” by Maryanne Sam, been MC for a variety of presentations honouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories, sings in 10 piece Motown/Soul band Motor City Sounds, and is a current member and co-conductor of Sweet Mona’s Choir, who performs world and gospel songs. deborahN is a proud Meriam woman of the Torres Strait Islands.
Born on Wadawurrung land, deborahN is passionate about learning and unlearning. At the core of her work in education, community service, writing and musicianship, Deb magnifies the importance of seeking social justice for all people and in particular, First Peoples in Australia. Deb’s work highlights the issues of the Australian landscape embracing and not embracing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, the cultures, histories and richness and diversity, through her presentations, teaching and storying. In particular, deborahN gives Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander language and culture a space to be seen, heard and privileged whenever and wherever possible.
